During our childhood days, we are often told to take one bite at a time, and as we grow up, a similar saying shapes our life and leads us to big wins- take one step at a time. Well, breaking down more significant tasks into smaller parts is a principle called Microproductivity.

Microproductivity helps in visualizing more enormous tasks as more approachable and less overwhelming. Dividing your workload into smaller parts will reduce our propensity to defer tasks since we do not understand where to begin.

Why does this tactic work?

Finally, you need to complete the same amount of work. Yet, “one step at a time” is a strategy that is helpful for everybody. Larger tasks create pre-conscious stress of completing a large amount of work. On the other hand, breaking down your large project into smaller parts helps us to understand the next step we need to take quickly. However, you need to make sure that you write down these steps as a checklist or tsk-list so that you have a track of your step-wise strategy. You will be able to refer back and remember what would be your next step.

When you have a greater workload, specificity is essential. Irrelevancy can be easily excluded if your goals are precise and specific. Thus, our focus and sense of pursuing the goal also increases. Moreover, our efforts are kindled, which is a cornerstone of motivation. We are immediately on the tip of our toes for attaining the necessary strategies alongside becoming more persistent. Achieving these specific goals instills confidence and motivation in us since we have achieved those step-by-step goals and have an idea of what success feels like.

How does this concept relate to Microproductivity? When we divide our bigger goals into smaller specific ones, we are able to set more milestones and move in the correct direction alongside staying motivated since we keep achieving those particular goals.

We, humans, like to see progress, and the adrenaline rush of satisfaction keeps us going. Well, this feeling of satisfaction can be experienced only when we achieve something. Therefore, when we set specific goals and keep accomplishing them step-by-step, our brain will release the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine is the connection releasing motivation and pleasure. It is the best way of self-learning where we repeated little achievements builds-up motivation.
